Most tourists stay on the beaten path, but today my Thai girlfriend Yanni is taking me deep into Si Chan, Khon Kaen to find the real Isan. We stumbled upon a spot that felt destined for the channel called Ninja Cafe and tracked down the legendary “Coconut Shell Mama” who uses old-school Isaan engineering to fuel her soy milk. 🥷🏽🥛 We also put a Michelin-starred BBQ spot to the test. Does the “Star” mean it’s the best in Khon Kaen? Honestly? It was so-so. Sometimes the hype is just a trap.
